Victoria Azarenka receives wildcard to Luxembourg Open

The entry list for the Luxembourg Open has been announced and it shows a potentially welcome return for Victoria Azarenka after the Belarusian was offered a wild card.

The tournament, which will start on 16 October, will be the first that Azarenka will have entered since her well-publicised withdrawal from the US Open following her child custody battle. Azarenka is likely to decide after 12 October whether she will actually play the tournament, but it is a welcome sign that she is on the list in the first place.

The other two wild cards have been awarded to Sabine Lisicki and Eugenie Bouchard, while the likes Barbora Strycova, Lucie Safarova and defending champion Monica Niculescu will participate.

Britain’s Heather Watson and exciting prospects Marketa Vondrousova and Oceane Dodin – who featured in our post about why the WTA should have a Next Gen finals – also make the entry list.
