Andy Murray back to winning ways in Mallorca Challenger

Andy Murray clinched his first victory since returning from hip surgery in convincing style, overcoming unranked Frenchman Imran Sibille 6-0 6-1.

Played in front of an electric atmosphere, the gulf between the two players was there for all to see as Murray wrapped up victory in just 44 minutes.

The Briton accepted a wildcard into the Rafa Nadal Open, which brought in a packed crowd for the evening match. And while Murray has earned over $60 million in prize money, his 17 year-old opponent’s earning stood at a mere $150.

There will be greater challenges for Murray, but this is a huge moment in his return to the game. His next opponent, Slovakian Norbert Gombos, will of course show us a little more about where Murray is, but let’s just rejoice in the fact that Andy Murray is winning tennis matches again.

But us British fans should all remember Imran Sibille’s name, just in case it comes up in this week’s pub quiz.
