British pair, Eden Silva and Sarah Beth Grey, finally clinched their first ITF doubles title as a team at the W25 event in Palmela.
The title comes after the pair made their Wimbledon debuts earlier in the month. Victory marks a major step for the partnership, which continues to blossom after a steady 2019 together. Already this year, Silva and Grey have combined to clinch a couple of WTA main tour wins in Dubai and Nottingham.
In Palmela, the pair defeated second seeds Estelle Cascino and Julia Terziyska 7-5 6-2. Yet, rather than basking in glory, the British duo were already boaring the train to their next destination: Porto.
Oh the glamour of the ITF tour…
Both players will be pleased with their performance in Portugal. Grey made a very welcome return to the singles draw with a run to the second round, where she eventually lost out to (you guessed it) Eden. Silva, who defeated fourth seed Mari Osaka in the opening round, was eventually eliminated in the quarter finals.
Silva, in particular, could have been forgiven for taking the week off after her amazing run to the quarter finals of the mixed event at Wimbledon. Instead, her commitment to the court came through and has been rewarded with a doubles title and decent run in the singles.
Both players will once again be joined by Maia Lumsden in Porto, who, like Silva, was eliminated at the quarter finals stage in Palmela.
